Jessee Dietch, PhD, DBSM

Hello! I’m Jessee Dietch and I am an assistant professor in the School of Psychological Science at Oregon State University. I’m a licensed clinical health psychologist and I’m certified in behavioral sleep medicine.

In my spare time, I like riding my bike, reading, gardening, hiking, and knitting. I live in Corvallis, Oregon with my husband, brother-in-law, and two cats.

Graduate Students

  • John is currently a doctoral student in Psychology at Oregon State University. His research focuses on motivations behind physical activity and other health-related behaviors. He is also interested in the ways health behaviors, such as exercise, influence psychopathology and wellbeing, particularly for people of color and sexually diverse individuals. He obtained his Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology at University of San Francisco in 2012 and his Master of Science degree in Psychology at Oregon State University in 2022. His previous work experience revolved around community mental health where he supported individuals with severe mental illness in reintegrating back into the community and obtaining employment. John is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer who specializes in corrective exercise and functional training.


  • Ruth is a new student pursuing a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Health Psychology. She has always had a special interest in sleep, social media behavior and the influence of fear of missing out on mental disorders as well as the development and validation of questionnaires. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, hiking, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

  • Jor (they/them) is a Psychology PhD student at Oregon State University, with a research focus on the mental health and wellbeing for trans and gender diverse adolescents and young adults. Jor obtained their Master of Arts degree in Higher Education at the University of Denver in 2017 and will earn their Master of Science in Psychology in June 2023. Prior to attending OSU, Jor worked in university cultural work supporting queer and trans college students. In their spare time, Jor loves to read, hike, and spend time with family.

Lab Administration


  • Hi there. I am Lucy Kozii. I was trained as a Medical Doctor in Ukraine and got my MPH from OSU. I am excited to join the SHAID lab as a Clinical Research Coordinator. I live in Corvallis with my 2 kids. I enjoy hiking, traveling, dancing, yoga, and meditation.

  • Jonathan is a recent graduate of Oregon State University and earned his B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Public Health. Jonathan’s interest in sleep psychology stems from personal experiences with family members and friends suffering from sleep disorders. In the future, Jonathan would like to use those experiences to fuel his drive to help others in whatever way he can. He plans on obtaining a Clinical PhD in Health Psychology to become a sleep therapist, researcher, and collegiate instructor. He previously worked as a Student Ambassador for the School of Psychological Science at OSU and served as the Secretary for the Psyched Out club. Jonathan’s hobbies include reading, meditating, writing, hiking, and playing the trumpet.

  • Alice is an undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Psychology, and currently working under Jor Grapentine, joining the SHAID lab to continue assisting them in their research. In her free time, Alice plays video games and TTRPGs, and writes.

  • Jenna is pursuing a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Public Health. She joined the lab hoping to grow her knowledge of sleep problems as well as Insomnia. Jenna is specifically interested in studying sleep within the nursing community and among people who work the graveyard shifts. When she graduates she plans to go after a master's degree and do clinical psychology. In her free time, Jenna loves Western dance and pottery. She also loves a good fantasy novel and a nice sunny spot outside in a hammock to read with her loyal chocolate lab, Koda at her side.

  • Naviya is a current undergraduate student at Oregon State University studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a Minor in Psychology. She is currently interested in the relationship between sleep and mental health with how they affect medical health professionals. In the future she aims to study women's health and attend medical school. Naviya's hobbies include being a part-time florist and wedding planner, dancing for OSU Bhangra, and volunteering in the Next Generation Ministry at her church.

  • Mariana is a current undergraduate student at Oregon State University majoring in BioHealth Sciences, with a minor in Chemistry. She is currently interested in gaining clinical laboratory experience, and the relationship between sleep and medical professional's mental wellbeing. After graduating, Mariana plans to attend medical school and explore neonatology, oncology and more! Her hobbies include playing the bass, being involved in clubs, practicing Taekwondo, dancing, and hanging out with friends and family!

  • Emma is an undergraduate student at Oregon State studying psychology, with an interest in neuropsychology. She is also interested in sleep. Additionally, she is interested in nutrition as it relates to overall sleep, sleep quality, sleep habits, etc. Emma is excited to grow, learn, and most importantly expand her knowledge as well as experience while in the lab. She plans to attend graduate school for clinical psychology after completing a B.S. in psychology. In her free time, she enjoys going on long walks when the weather is nice, watching the sunset go through its different colors/phases, spending time with loved ones, and doing yoga.

  • Ellie is a current undergraduate student at Oregon State University studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She is currently interested in the relationship between sleep and mental health and how they interconnect with each other. In the future she aims to attend dental school. Ellie’s hobbies include reading and writing as well as spending an inordinate amount of time playing with her cat.

  • Otis is majoring in Honors Psychology and minoring in leadership and biology here at OSU. He has specific interests in sleep impacts on mental health and psychological treatment/intervention. Otis aims to pursue clinical psychology graduate school in the future. He is currently working on his honors thesis project through the lab, exploring relationships between sleep health, mental health, dreams, visual imagery, and locus of control. Outside of the lab, Otis can be found chasing the snow around Oregon, playing complicated board games, and scuba diving.

  • Kali is currently an undergraduate student studying Psychology and Health Management and Policy. Current interests involve examining factors such as sleep that have an impact on individuals overall mental health and well being. Kali plans on attending graduate school in clinical psychology after completing a B.S. in Psychology and Health Management Policy. After school she enjoys spending time outside taking her dog on hikes!

  • Kear is a 4th-year psychology student with a minor in sociology, interested in peer-to-peer relationships, rejection, and trauma and how it can impact our sleep. They plan to attend graduate school for Social or Clinical Psychology and pursue their love for research. Kear is a big fan of horror movies, coffee shops, their cat Sprite Cranberry, and asking as many questions as allowed.
